Product Information

Frankford Arsenal’s Case Trim & Prep Center accurately trims brass in seconds. An innovative Case Holder with Adjustable Collet and Bushing System indexes the case shoulder and can be set to precisely trim brass to the exact desired case length. Once the case holder is adjusted simply insert brass into the case holder as a collet aligns the case squarely with the hi-speed cutter. As the case mouth contacts the cutter it is trimmed until the case shoulder stops on an internal bushing. A series of three collets and five bushings (all included) accommodate any shouldered case from 17Rem-460Wby. In addition to the cutter, the station operates up to three additional tools at the same time. Inside and outside chamfer tools and primer pocket cleaners are included to fully prepare cases for loading. The heavy duty motor and drivetrain are optimized for durability and performance. Cutters and Chamfer tools are constructed of high quality hardened steel. A convenient built in storage box holds spare collets, bushings and tools. Patent Pending

Should have bought it a long time ago

By Ryan B. on Apr 25, 2023
I was looking for something faster, easier, and more precise than using my old manual trimmer and hand deburring tools. This unit fit the bill nicely. In the past I have only trimmed rifle cases when they went past the max length, but after using this for a few hundred 223 cases I can see myself trimming every time I load.
My only complaint, and the reason for 4 stars, is that the case trimming cutter seems to be at a little bit of an angle from the collet that holds/guides the cases. I have to spin each case 360 degrees to get a perfectly flat cut. I haven't taken it apart to see if there is something that I have done in the setup or assembly that is causing it or if it was just made that way. It isn't off a lot, but as I spin the case I can hear it cutting a small amount of brass.
Overall, I like it and wish I hadn't waited so long to get it.

Good, but slow than expected.

Overall, I quite like the Frankford Arsenal case trim and prep system. I do, however have a few minor criticisms. That’s why I only gave it four stars.

-Used, not new.
My first criticism is of Amazon, and has nothing to do with Graf and Sons, Frankford Arsenal or its products. When I opened the box from Amazon containing my new case prep system, imagine my dismay when I found the product box had been re-sealed using blue painter’s tape and had very obviously been returned and resold. When I removed the unit from the box, I found several parts were missing. When I attempted to plug it in to see if it even functioned, I found I couldn’t. It had a European rather than American power plug. Needless to say, within twenty minutes, it was on its way back to Amazon. Luckily, Amazon has a rather good return policy.

I subsequently ordered a new unit from Graf and Sons for a lower price than Amazon was selling them for. When I received the replacement unit, it was factory fresh and complete. It even had an American power plug. This was my first purchase from Graf and Sons, and I think I'll be making more in the future.

-Its slower than I would like.

I found the case trimmer part of the unit wasn’t much faster than my manual Lyman Universal Case Trimmer. Even so, it’s a whole lot less tiring to use when trimming larger batches of brass. I attribute the slow trimming rate to the rather slow 200 RPM spindle speed. This spindle speed works fine for the deburring and primer-pocket-cleaning tools, but is a bit slow for the case-trimming tool. It would be nice if they doubled the trimmer spindle speed.

I also use a Lyman Case Trim Express power trimmer and Lee Precision case trimmer (with a cordless drill) in the reloading room I have at my winter home. The Lyman unit has a variable-speed motor. I typically run both of these units at higher spindle speeds than the Frankford Arsenal unit. They both trim noticeably faster than the Frankford Arsenal unit.

-Trimmer length adjustments aren’t as precise as I would like.

The marks on the case trimmer adjustment scale are in 5/1,000th graduations and there is no index mark to align them with. This makes adjusting the trim length a bit finicky. In contrast, both my manual and power Lyman trimmers have 1/1,000th graduations on their adjustment scales and do have index marks to line them up with. This makes fine adjustments a bit easier to make on these units.

-Your length and very.

After trimming about 1,200 223 Remington cases on this unit, I found I needed to adjust the length setting after each 300 or so cases. As I trimmed cases, they would progressively get shorter as I trimmed more of them. After trimming about 300 cases, they were trimming about 0.001-inch shorter than when I started, and my length setting needed to be tweaked a little.

This may be caused as much by how I personally trim cases as by anything else. The bushing that indexes on the case shoulder’s datum point has a very square shoulder. When I trim my cases, I spin each case 360-degrees while keeping it held against the cutter and bushing in order to ensure a square cut on the case mouth. I believe this is slightly wearing the bushing’s very sharp, square edge, and that this will eventually stabilize once the bushing is sufficiently worn in to match the angle of the case shoulder.

-The unit is bigger than I thought it would be.

When I first unboxed this unit, I noticed that it’s significantly bigger than I thought it would be. It’s about three times as large as my Lyman Case Trim Express and about as large at the electric motor on my Skill Saw. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just bigger than I expected.

Summation.

All of the criticisms I’ve mentioned above are relatively minor.

Overall I think this is a very good unit. The build quality appears to be quite good and the convenience of having all my case prep tools powered and in one place is very nice.

I also like the on-board tool storage compartment and adjustable stand. The stand let’s you angle the unit so the trimmer station is positioned quite conveniently.

I like the bushing and collet system Frankford Arsenal has come up with. It allows me to accommodate a wide variety of cartridge cases without having to buy additional accessories.

This is awesome. I wasn't sure about setup, but after I got over the stress, it was easy and just as easy to change calibers.
Just awesome

Awesome experience

I ordered the Frankford Platinum case prep and trim system along with 24 other items. Shipping was super fast and the case prep and trim system is amazing. Will definitely do business with Graf & Sons again.

Should have bought one long time ago

This is a real time saver. The first time I used it I prepared 100 cases of 6.8 in about 30 minutes with continuing to check case length. Look forward to preparing the rest of my brass. Really like the layout of the tool it keeps the process fluent.

I like it!

By Allen B. on Oct 13, 2018
I bought this to speed up my case prep for loading 6.5 and 308 cases. So far have used it on 300 cases and it has cut my pep time down considerably. As one of the previous reviews stated the original cutter is not as accurate as I would liked so I replaced it with an RCBS Pro Case carbide cutter and it cuts much better.

My plan is to eventually buy a unit for each caliber that I load, this way I wont have to change the cutter settings between 2 separate calibers.

So, in short I would definitely say this was a good purchase!

Works Good!

Prep station is a nice addition to my reloading tools. Faster, easier and more convenient than trying to do by hand. Helps with consistency as well. Setup was quick and easy. So far have prepped a couple hundred cases and worked as expected. It is not a top shelf, high-dollar prep machine but is going to work nicely for me loading 1000 to 1500 rounds a year. So far I am very pleased with its performance.
I would recommend this product!

Best brass prep tool

If you try out one of your friends Platinum case prep units you will be ordering one for yourself. So much faster than any other method, plus all in one motion - no one step at a time anymore.

Just what I was looking for

By William S. on Jun 14, 2017
I have been doing case prepping by hand for quite some time. I looked at some of these other types of Case Prep stations and I was never enthused about any of them. But then I saw a video on Graf and Sons showing this one and I never knew it even existed. After watching the short video I bought one and I am glad I did. I wish I had bought one of these when they first came out. Great time saver. This thing speeds up case prepping more than I could imagine. I highly recommend this product.

I like it, and and glad I bought it.

Just received my Trim Center today, bought somewhere else. Very simple to setup. Tools spin at about 120 rpm. Chamfer and debur tools work well.

Trim length is easy to adjust, major markings are .005" adjustments, minor markings are .0025". Plenty of room between the markings to fine tune, I believe you could easily set length down to .0005-.0010" of adjustment. The trim length seems to be accurate to .002", but I believe that is more from the sizing in my dies. I like the case support system, very solid and repeatable contact / measurement from the bottle neck forward.

The case is supported at the case neck by 1 of six washers, each has a different inside diameter. The body of the case is held by 1 of 3 plastic inserts, the outside nut is tightened to make the insert fit the case. This setup works well, cuts the neck nice and square, and seems to hold its adjustment. A little extra force on the case in the trimmer gives you a more positive feel for when the case bottoms out and the cutting stops. A little less force still worked, but did not give a positive feel for when you were done cutting, thus taking longer on each case.

I prepped about 400 5.56/223 cases this afternoon. After about 2 hours, the housing was hot, but I could hold the back of my hand against it. Your hands will get fatigued from doing large numbers of cases.

My cases needed an average of .020-.030" removed. I could comfortably trim and prep 3+ cases a minute. I set the Trim Center vertically in a plastic tub to catch shavings, worked well. The tool speed is fast enough to set a good pace, but slow enough that the shavings are not thrown all over the place.

Prior to this trim center, I would trim with a Lee Trimmer/Gauge setup mounted in a cordless drill. This is a much faster and more pleasant process, and can be used with multiple calibers without needing to purchase additional gauges.

FA Prep Station

By Endre S. on Apr 06, 2014
I was looking for an "all-in-one" prep station for my brass, this unit just came out from FA and there were no reviews for me to take tips from so I took a chance. I just got thru prepping about 400 rnds and this machine made it quick and fairly accurate although I did notice that after about 50 rnds or so, the trimmer would vary .001-.004 sometimes "-" sometimes "+". Other than that I feel it is a great time saving tool for my plinking loads.
Cons:
plastic collet ( not sure this will make a difference since it's not really doing anything other than guiding the case into the cutter)
Outside chamfer- May be personal preference but I feel the RCBS works better.
Pros:
Compact design
Trimmer accommodates multiple calibers
Quiet
Trim cases, ID and OD chamfer, clean primer pockets all in one convenient package.
