Due to the packaging and shipping process, case necks are often slightly dinged or bent and need to be rounded up and sized to give proper neck tension. New and/or fired cases must be full-length resized or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through the case neck prior to loading.

Works great for cowboy action, both smokeless and BP.

Good Brass

By Kenneth W. on Apr 23, 2020
Usually no complaints about Starline brass but this bag of 44-40 brass cases had quite few dinged and bent case mouths, and one so far has a dented body. None of this would prevent me from buying more.

Starline 44-40 Brass

I'm new to reloading and the stories I read about how difficult the 44-40 is didn't give me confidence. Happy to say that reloading the Starline 44-40 brass went very smooth and it works perfectly in my Model 92. Great stuff!

Had a few Winchester cases, they were hard and actually jammed my press. These went through like butter and came out beautiful. Fire great as well

Starline Brass

Before I started loading for the 44-40 I read a lot of stories about the challenges of reloading this caliber. It mostly involved the case neck giving way during crimping or accidental bump against the sizing die mouth and dinging the case mouth beyond repair. This for some folks resulted in a high loss of case rate. I read on Starline's web site how they respond to this problem. I was impressed and ordered their brass. I was not disappointed in it's performance. Over 2000 rounds of reloading for this caliber to date and not one lost case. I use Starline brass for several other calibers also including long range calibers and IMHO it is one of the finest pieces of brass a person can buy with their hard earned money. I might be slighty prejudice being from Sedalia,Mo. myself one could say but try it out, you won't be disappointed.
Happy shooting.

44-40 Starline Brass

By Thomas F. on Mar 10, 2019
I bought 2 bags of 100 count brass. Only 2 pieces had a small ding in the mouth that was easily fixed. The flash holes were nice and round, no burr on the inside. I did square out the primer pockets (because I had the tool) but really didn't need to. These easily chambered in my new 1860 Henry with out full length sizing. I will buy another couple of bags in the future. BTW, I also use Starline for my .45-70 BPCR.

Best quality brass available, especially with the typically thin neck of 44-40. Starline is second to none
