Product Information

Designed for hunting, self-defense and law enforcement applications, the XTP® bullet demonstrates the kind of accuracy that led many competitive shooters to adopt it. Reliable performance makes the XTP® the most popular handgun bullet for both target shooters and hunters. But it's the stopping power of the XTP® bullet that has truly built its world-class reputation. From the onset, XTP® bullets were specifically designed to expand reliably at a wide range of handgun velocities to deliver deep penetration with every shot.

  • CONTROLLED EXPANSION:  Precise serrations divide the XTP® into symmetrical sections, strategically weakening the jacket and initiating controlled expansion even at low velocities.
  • NO EXPOSED LEAD:  The gilding metal jacket protects the nose of the bullet, so the hollow cavity functions properly on impact and ensures proper feeding in semi-automatics.
  • SWAGED CORE:  Total uniformity of core density ensures balanced expansion as well as in-flight stability.
  • DRAWN GILDING METAL JACKET:  Expansion is controlled by varying jacket thickness down the length of the XTP®, providing a definite advantage over plated bullets which have a uniform jacket thickness over the entire bullet.
  • CANNELURE:  On revolver bullets, the cannelure helps achieve accurate, consistent crimping. All cannelures are applied before the final forming process to eliminate any distortion to the finished bullet.

This is not loaded ammunition.

All my semi-auto's love these.

Best for my 9MM's HORNADY 9MM(.355)124gr HP/XTP

By Rick B. on Oct 11, 2022
These are great for my 9mm's. Good SD for this type bullet. I paired them with Titiegroup x.x gr, 1.12 COL, CCI 500 SPP, .376 (.001) crimp and achieved 4.0 Std Dev in my M&P Shields and 6.4 in my S&W SD9. That's pretty good consistency. So as far as accuracy is concerned and overall performance I find these bullets to be perfect for my use.

By John M. on Oct 27, 2020
These bullets are consistent weight and feed flawlessly in all my 9mm pistols (Beretta, SIG, Glock, S&W). Graf shipping was fast and well packed - no missing pieces that occurs with other shippers.

They do what I want and do it well.

Hornady 124-grain XTP HP

By Jeff K. on Feb 09, 2020
The Hornady XTP HP bullets have a good reputation for loading self-defense rounds but I like using them for their functionality and accuracy. I get better groups with the XTP HP than all other bullets I have tried. They always feed through my Beretta with no issues. I will continue using them.

hornady 124 grain, 9mm hp xtp

By Richard T. on Jul 04, 2019
In Calif., 9mm 124 grain hp xtp ammo, is very hard to find. Unless you are a reloader. which means I can tune my reloads to my firearms consistently. The same goes for my 357, 44mag, all my rifles. Hornady makes excellent bullets that work well when used, for the right application.

Shoot just fine out of my G19.

By Jake K. on Jan 17, 2019
These are not state of the art expanding bullets. They’re an older design and they will expand. They are not HST’s or Gold Dots but they are accurate. They are priced well enough to be used for practice. Their only downsides and why they are not recommended by Dr. Roberts for self defense is they over penetrate and the HP cavity can get plugged up in denim, intermediate barriers and they might not expand.

Great for what they are

By Paul L. on Dec 31, 2018
I have reloaded these for use in Beretta 92FS and Glock 43. No feed issues in either. These projectiles are readily available and affordable. For personal defense I believe that there are better options on the market

Accurate and no feed problems

By Josh H. on Dec 04, 2018
These bullets have fed fine and were accurate using the loading data from the Hornady manual and Power Pistol powder. No troubles with any gun I tried them in from a WWII Luger to the modern 9mm jobs. There is some sort of polishing media in some of bullet tips that picks out easily, but check for it. Price is good, too.

Factory C.O.A.L.

By James A. J. on Sep 07, 2018
I called Hornady and they told me that the factory recommended COAL for the 9mm Luger using the 124gr XTP bullet is 1.069". So, those of you having "feed issues" might try seating the bullets to the Hornady specs and see if the helps. I have no feed issues whatsoever with them and all three of my 9mm pistols are out of the box stock.

Accurate but feed issues

By Terry T. on Sep 03, 2012
Would not feed from magazine in my 9mm Sig Sauer SP2022, until I put a mirror polish on the barrel feed ramp. Will not feed at all in my 9mm CZ 75B; even after adjust COAL at various lengths from 1.111 to 1.125 inch. CZs come from the factory with a mirror finish on the feed ramp so that's not the issue. Would not recommend for Sigs or CZs.
